Another school year has ended, and as in many schools, tears were shed as children and staff prepare to move on.
The difference at Marton is that tears were shed on a daily basis by the Deputy Head, who could no longer cope with teaching and running the school.
Why is she in this state? The Advisers who normally run everything have left for their holidays. Mrs. Coupe continues to lock herself in her office – not to be disturbed. She is inaccessible at all times. The door is not answered, even if someone dares to knock. What must she do in there? She certainly does not participate in running the school – hence a Deputy who can’t cope, and miserable unhappy staff who continually plan their escape from Marton’s flooding.
