I have taken this from the original Marton school website. I hope the postmaster does not mind, but I think it's significant that yet another act has been carried out, without procedure being followed. I have heard that the governors have since "backtracked" on their decision - when they were told procedure had not been followed! I'm not sure what this means for the governor concerned - probably that he will still be removed - after the correct procedure has been followed. I do know that one trusted member of the governing body voted against this governor's removal.

It is with sadness that I report that on Monday night a governor who dared to ask questions was voted off the governing body. He was concerned, like us, about many of the things happening at Marton. The following are taken from the statutory procedures for governing bodies :

In certain prescribed circumstances the governing body can decide to suspend a governor for a period up to six months.

Any motion to suspend must be specified as an agenda item of a meeting for which at least seven days notice must be given. Before the governing body votes to suspend a governor, the governor proposing the suspension must give the reasons for doing so. The governor who is proposed for suspension must be given the opportunity to make a statement in response before withdrawing from the meeting and a vote is taken.

A governor who has been suspended must be given notice of any meetings and must be sent agendas, reports and papers for any meetings during their suspension.

A governor who has been suspended cannot be disqualified from holding office for failure to attend meetings under paragraph 5 of Schedule 6 of the Constitution Regulations. (See Annex 1)

We have now yet another question - how does the Chair of Governors defend the actions of Monday evening ? Please let us know the section of the governments regulations which legally allow what you have just done.
