Like Alan, I was pleased with the way Steve answered most of our worries.
I will, however go back to my very first post.
Steve you said "Both myself personally, and as a company do not take responsibility for the content of websites hosted on server space we rent. We simply provide the means for this server space to be used by our clients.
And this is a very crucial statement. You see the authority's school websites are guaranteed to be in a safe environment where there is no possibility of accessing sites from the school websites which would be a problem for children. I do not know that this would be the case from a private company - as I said Lancashire would need to have your hosting service thoroughly checked before it could be used in school. This is the It policy for all the NW GFL in relation to the walled garden system
Steve probably didn't know but parents fears were raised about security when children accessed pornographic sites from within school.
"Compsave Computer Services, or anyone that represents Compsave Computer Services in a professional capacity in relation to Marton Primary School will not be involved in the design or build process of the School Website". and "As a company, Compsave Computer Services are offering to provide the hosting for a new site at no cost to the school or LEA and will therefore not gain anything financially from the service provision"
SO, as I asked in my first post, the authority's hosting service is included in their provision, if there are potential dangers what would be the point of moving to a new host ? What are the benefits ? As far as the PGL images are concerned, teachers surely only need a school laptop to upload the images via ftp - pages could be set up before the staff leave or simply use Googles free program Picasa to create a web album, so a new host is not needed for that reason. Teachers have already been doing this for previous PGL visits
Thanks once again Steve, I am not attempting to discredit the donation, merely to find out what would be the benefits, whether it is secure and whether, in fact, it had been thoroughly thought through in the light of our experiences over the last two years - of which you most likely have not been aware.
I would just like to remind readers of one or two points that may help to clarify what Mr Normyle's connection with the school has been. Earlier this school year Mr Normyle spent some time in the school working with Mr Hill. Mr Normyle has stated that he will not be working with children and therefore CRB clearance is not required. However, he has failed to note that anybody working with children requires enhanced clearance. I think we can probably assume that the LEA, school and Governors have not ensured that Mr Normyle had enhanced CRB clearance.
Maybe Mrs Coupe could come out of her office a little more and make sure these issues are taken care of.
Why has Mr Hill been allowed to have his friend in school working on school computers? Also, why has Mr Normyle stated that he has no connection with the school?
Sounds like there could be more trouble to come.
Steven, you gave an articulate response and, like Alan, I am very re-assured that NO ONE involved in compsave has anything to do with the Marton school website, apart from hosting. I wonder which member of Marton staff has the future career in WEBSITE design and publishing ahead of them - maybe they will be buying this in - I know I would, it's very complicated getting it off the ground!
Hats off to you for the community spirit, providing free hosting (didn't they have it already via the schools thingy?) - even so- a magnanimous gesture from a local company! (I do think it's a bit naughty advertising the company on the bottom of Marton's website and providing a direct link to your site - hang on a minute...why would Marton school do this...anyway...).
I do however, take exception about the defamatory comments bit. In law, defamation is the communication of a statement that makes a false claim, expressly stated or implied to be factual, that may harm the reputation of an individual, business, product, group, government or nation. Most jurisdictions allow legal actions, civil and/or criminal, to deter various kinds of defamation and retaliate against criticism.
No comment made by myself was defamatory, and never would I make such a comment. It's sad that many comments on this forum threaten action on truthful statements, after all, isn't free speech what World Wars are fought over.
Alan, I do feel you are missing the point saying all this has nothing to do with the school - the owner of compsave works for the school and therefore Steven works for him...and...is it just me? Perhaps it is...ahh well - I just realised, I live and work in the real world - not this strange world of education, where there must be many lumps and bumps - everything seems to get swept under the carpet!
Forgot to mention previously about a comment that it is difficult to update the council provided website outside the council intranet, its SUPPOSED to be difficult - this stops people trying to hack into the website from around the world and changing stuff and doctoring images - double DOH!!!
Think I may upset everyone if I carry on - it really wasn't meant to - honest!!
Peace and Love to all -
Webster (going to find a dark corner to spin another web).
