Water Issues.................I have no idea of others veiws on the lack of choice given in schools when water is offered. My own opinion is that I dont demand my children to do this so why should anyone else. schools are progressivly creeping into parental areas ,in my opinion.It will get a lot worse if parents dont challenge this now.
This isnt personal to Marton school,but as is the case with the present head the furthest to the line is always her preferred choice. at Hawes-side I recall a very nice lady making reference to reception children drinking water. She spoke as if it was an achievement. How can it be achievement if such young children are not given a choice . Are they equipped at 4 and newly experiencing time away from parents? I think not, I guesss it is a matter of opinion.
I believe in free will choice. If the children are offered a choice of water or somthing else , and they choose water,then Yes this is truly good stuff. But to mask such underhand acts as progresive realy does concern me.
My children have been told they are not allowed to drink the quite adequate high juice that I have used for about 8 yrs. Not only does it not have colours but has added vit c to boot. I also personly with acceptance from my boys dilute to just under 1 part to 7 ratio rather than the manufacturers 1 to 4 parts ratio. extra to this since i bought a steamer 6 months ago i decant the water from the steamer to make up the juice giving further nutrition. Why then is this high juice deemed unsuitable.
the restictions imposed on my family in schhool is excessive . The dinnertime regime cannot interfere with what any child drinks even if it was deemed unsuitable.IT IS NOT LAW nor is it MANDORTARY it is supposed to be followed by GUIDELINES. Now since when have guidelines been law. Only when imposed by a head wishes to stretch her remit as she is given to think that what she says goes. the goveners need to tread very carefully now because she could leave them all with egg on their faces. They are only usefull to her if they give her the power to reign as she sees fit. The tide will turn because she will continue to take it too far,this is inevitable Im affraid. I nearly feel sorry for her,but then i wake up to the fact that she affects children ........the childrens sympathy wins hands down compared to any commpassion i may have for such a level of functioning.
I have written to the school food trust and will relay the response when i get it. There is no law that says that our children HAVE to drink water. Given a choice they may not. Encouraging healthy drinking and eating is not attall meant to be a blantant lack of choice!!!!!!! Giselle
