sad farewell

Yet another member of staff is leaving Marton for pastures new. Miss Lace is going to Kirkham Grammar School and has worked at Marton for as long as i can remember, i could be wrong but i think it is since it opened. She is not only a wonderful teacher but she also runs the After School Group/ Holiday Group.
There was always a smiling face greeting you when you went to pick up your children and a smile on the childs face. It is very sad that another long serving staff member is leaving, whatever the circumstances.
When i received this weeks newsletter i was surprised to find only two small sentences referring to her departure. Very brief, abrupt and without any sincerity.
I will write my own entry instead.

Sadly, at the end of this term we say goodbye to Miss. Lace.
She is leaving Marton for pastures new and is going to the
nursery at Kirkham Grammar School. We wish her well for
the future.

Having said that, she did in fact get a mention. More than can be said for some.

Yet again a further sign of bad management. I'm sure though this is something else that can be blamed on someone else.
Enjoy your new job Miss Lace, hopefully you will be truly valued.

It is indeed a shame that another long standing teacher has decided to jump ship, bearing in mind Mr Lund had said previously that no-one will be leaving Marton I think Miss Lace deserved a pat on the back for finding a lifeboat to re-start her career rather than be caught up in all the mayhem at Marton, and be lost without a trace.Miss Lace was a wonderful teacher and my children had the pleasure to be taught by her, good luck Miss Lace Marton will be worse off without you.
No doubt the Head and Chairman of Governors at Marton will be sorry to see her go,after all Miss Lace was yet another one of the staff who made Marton the finest Primary School in Blackpool, mind you we did have Mrs Lancaster steering the ship at the time !!!

Another excellent teacher leaves

I agree with your sentiments Wayne. Another of the best teachers leaving Marton is very sad news. Miss Lace was also responsible for the excellent report which Ofsted gave to the after school club about a year after it started. I wonder how that will fare now.

I think Miss Lace's departure also shows what life at Marton must be like - she has left to work fewer hours in a school with no after school club, so must be taking a drop in salary. Isn't it a real shame that such quality staff are so desperate to leave Marton that they have to do that.

If Miss Lace has indeed taken a drop in salary then one can only assume that life at Marton had become unbearable,it would be interesting to know just how the morale of the staff has been affected by all these departures.
High morale is usually based on staff being in a position for a significant length of time,as they get to know each other on a professional and personal basis they then begin to gel and between them work better as a team, which will then lift the standards of the workplace to which they are employed.
Speaking from a personal experience I know that as staff come and go, morale is seriously affected as new employees are not "committed to the cause" due to their immediate lack of pride and committment to the task in hand, yes they may be fine teachers, but they are not a fine team.
Very quickly, staff form little groups within the workplace new staff may be withdrawn from the "team" due to their inexperience or unfamiliarality of their surroundings.
It takes a strong leader to mold these people into a strong team.Unfortunately(and I might be wrong here) I think that the staff at Marton must be anything than united as faces change on a very frequent basis ,I do not feel that the school has a management team who can get the levels of professionalism out of the staff that the school has enjoyed for so many years.
Three words which are frequntly used are Pride, Passion and Belief, I think currently Marton falls short on all three, yet these were the very words which under Mrs Lancaster made the school a benchmark for other schools to aspire to,like I have said previously, I may be wrong, but I would like to hear from any staff on the atmosphere within the school, if the staff are united and pulling in the same direction then I for one would be extremely surprised .
