Old Post Introducing Dean LomaxDean Lomax Sep 28, 05 - 5:41 PM I am a Governor at Marton
Hi
I am a Governor at Marton Primary and have been for the last 13 years since the school opened.
I have been actively involved with the school all that time and have had the pleasure of contributing to much of what made Marton a great school. I was Chair of the PTFA from its inception and for many years after that and have always been proud of how the school, staff, governors, PTFA, parents, friends and most importantly of all, the children have contributed so freely to the development of the school.
Whilst I must point out that I cannot discuss official Governor business on this site, as I am sure you will understand, I feel the need to say the following. I am officially aware of a lot of what has happened over the last year and I am unofficially aware of a lot more than that. I can assure you that as far as I am concerned I take everything that has happened very seriously and will be using my position as Governor to do whatever I can to put things right. I cannot speak for the other Governors - that must be down to them.
Following on from another post on this site, I would re-iterate the fact that if any individual has a concern, that it must be raised officially and that person must be prepared to come forward. I will do whatever is in my power to ensure that all concerns are fairly heard at a Governor level and that there will be no kind of 'comeback' to the person who raises the matter.
I would urge anyone who does have a concern to email me directly at the email address associated with this post and I will treat every correspondence with the strictest of confidence. Whilst I cannot answer any questions which would breach the confidentiality I have as a Governor, I am prepared to take your queries forward as long as you are prepared to come forward as yourselves and not anonymously.
Once again, let me assure you that I intend to play my part in returning Marton School to the wonderful place of learning it once was. Marton School is a part of my life and something I will not let go of easily.

Well done DEan. Maybe as a governoe you can push all the governors to have a meeting for parents - nothing seems to be happening and it is very frustrating. I am sure, even if parents are reluctant to give theere names here they will come to a meeting as there is safety in numbers. The longer everything is left the worse things are going to get. im worried about the children soem of them must be able to tell that everything isnt ok. Do you know how many children have left?
ALAN VEALE Sep 29th, 2005 - 11:36 AM Re: I am a Governor at Marton
Hi Dean
I am delighted you have added your own voice to this debate. We both know each other, and I know that I can make contact with you direct on any matters, official or otherwise. You have made a generous offer to allow worried parents to contact you “at the email address associated with this post” – but that address is confidential to the postmaster. I am happy to voice my concerns in public (see below), but for the moment, others may not be so happy to reply “in person” on this board. You may need to consider an alternative method of receiving confidential replies to your offer.
For my part, and following on from my “This is Personal” message, I would like to ensure that my complaint is properly handled through official channels, and perhaps I can ask you to oversee that task?
The details are as follows: My son started the academic year with a new form teacher of whom I knew nothing at all, and Mrs Coupe has done nothing to reassure me that my son’s education will meet the standards achieved thus far by the teachers he has had up to the end of Year Four. On the contrary, this same teacher has already been replaced by a supply teacher, but only until the end of this term. I have received no “official” information about how the school intends to ensure that the proper educational standards that my son is entitled to are to be met. In contrast, I have been given an “action plan” of measures proposed as a result of a discredited OFSTED report, with no details yet as to when a meeting is to be called with parents to discuss these measures. I have also been made aware that there have been numerous allegations in school of bullying, blackmail, mis-information, and cover-up. All these allegations have been laid at the door of the head teacher, Mrs Ruth Coupe, who continues to remain in post. As I understand that there is a considerable amount of evidence in support of these allegations, I feel strongly that an official investigation be made into this matter, and I call upon the governors of Marton Primary School to initiate whatever action they deem suitable. I also feel that the head teacher, the governors and the LEA should have questioned the result of the OFSTED inspection in view of the contradictory image it presented to a previous report by the LEA in January. Each of those parties were aware of the procedures in place to challenge the inspection, but it would appear that no such challenge took place.
If other parents reading this posting have any views on the above, perhaps you would also like to add your thoughts, and contact Dean direct once an address is available. Remember – if you have a complaint about the way the school is being run, then contact the governors. If they cannot satisfy you, contact the LEA, and if THEY can’t resolve it, you can still contact the Government. If enough of us feel the same way, we WILL get a result!
