Freedom of SpeechI was in town yesterday and saw a man with a microphone outside the Winter Gardens, where the Political Conference is taking place. He was openly criticising the government. He was expressing his views about how we had been lied to and given false promises etc etc. He named specific MPs and quoted scenarios that had happened which he didn't agree with. There were hundreds of people about - all listening to him. They didn't log into a website because they specifically wanted to find out his views. They had no choice but to listen to what he was saying. There were councillors and Members of Parliament all around. AND there were scores of policemen and women. And guess what - he wasn't being investigated by the police! He was allowed to say what he thought! And I'm all for that!
Come on Mrs Coupe. I know you're a teacher, but don't treat us like children. You do not need to involve the police at the drop of a button (if indeed you are doing). We do not need 'investigating' for posting our opinions on a website or handing out leaflets to let parents know about the website. And if I find out that we are being 'investigated' I will be making a very public complaint to the highest authority for a complete and utter waste of police time. I pay Blackpool Council Tax (which you don't I might add) to pay the police to fight crime and help Blackpool citizens keep the town a better place. I do not pay them to waste their time to help intimidate innocent members of the public for expressing their opinions about some very important matters involving children.
We want to have a public meeting with you and you won't allow it. What are you afraid of? We're not a small minority of 'trouble makers' (allegedly this is your quote I might add) - we're an ever growing group of worried parents wanting some answers to our questions.
