Blackpool Councillors

I have heard recently that a number of councillors regularly read the posts on this forum. If that's the case, then I really do despair.

How can anybody read these posts about bullying, intimidation, incompetence, lies and cover ups without doing something, or at the very least, investigating further?

Are they all going to continue burying their heads in the sand, and pretending that everything is fine? Is that what they have been told to do? There is only one councillor that I know of who had the decency to listen, to think for himself, and to act.

One lone councillor.

Disgusting.

When the truth does finally come out, as it will, I hope these people will be ashamed that they did not act. In my opinion they are not fit to hold office.

i was very surprised to find gordon marsden listing in his PUBLICITY leaflet the various things he has done for his constituency and where he feels he has helped people. One of these was in education and how he feels he has talked with parents groups, etc. I was unaware of his involvement with trying to resolve the situation at Marton, has he intervened 'off the record?'. Perhaps i have missed his offer of help(regardless of politics), can anyone shed light on this matter?

Contact your Councillor!

I note that several people have posted recently, wondering about the involvement (if any) of both Blackpool Councillors and the MP for Blackpool South, Gordon Marsden.

May I remind you that each of these ladies and gentlemen are “elected representatives” – voted in to act on behalf of the citizens of Blackpool. That means that, regardless of their own personal opinions on any subject, they are there to represent YOU – and to argue on your behalf in Council or in Parliament. They are accountable to YOU! We may be forgiven sometimes for gaining an impression from some of these worthies that they are only interested in their own particular viewpoints, political or otherwise. Some have even been known to protest when they have received criticism from the general public about their conduct or otherwise. However, in the run up to next year’s local elections, Blackpool Councillors will be vigorously reminding us all of the good deeds they have done for Joe Public – in the hope that we will vote them back in…

So – as I gather that the “general public” reading this post includes a wide number of Blackpool citizens – many with children at Blackpool schools – I wonder how many of you have felt enough concern to complain to your elected representative about the way things have been perceived in the Local Education Authority? Have you asked for your Councillor’s point of view, or advice? Have you been in touch with your MP?

We can all see that Marton Primary School is now a pitiful shadow of its former self, but many other schools have felt the effects of the actions already documented on this website. Even the staff at Progress House itself have not escaped the financial impact of this appalling saga. I am therefore reminding you that, even if you are a parent who has already removed your child from Marton (an ever-growing club each week), if your child is in a school in Blackpool, there are still serious implications for how that school is to fare under the present Education Authority. Do you care enough? Does your elected representative?

I therefore suggest that, if you DO care about education in Blackpool, you seek the advice and opinions of your local Councillor and your MP. You have a computer; you don’t need to post a letter – just send a short message by email to the person or persons responsible for your Ward. Remember that whatever you write is between you and your elected representative. It HAS to remain confidential, and you ARE entitled to contact the people you voted in to power!

Below are the email addresses for each of Blackpool’s Councillors, together with the names of the Wards they represent. These details are also available on the Blackpool Council website. Clicking on any one of the hyperlinks below should immediately give you the facility to send an email message direct to that person’s mailbox.

It is a fact that the number of children on role at Marton has fallen significantly over the last 2 years. However I would like to challenge the comments from the LEA that this is due to a drop in birth rates etc etc and all Blackpool school's are experiencing the same. Why is it that Hawes Side School had to increase their Reception class numbers from 2 to 3 last year and have done the same this year. That's an increase of 50%. This school is extremely close to Marton. Why didn't the children who elected to go to Hawes Side get sent to Marton? Is there a little help going on from the council to close down Marton?
Perhaps someone would like to comment.
