Another casualty

One of Marton’s School Advisers has just announced that he is taking early retirement. This seems to be particularly sudden.

It is well documented on this site how many staff, children and governors have already been casualties of the mismanagement of the Marton situation, so many may not be surprised at this first LEA casualty.
Professional people, including high up Union representatives, Doctors and teachers in other schools have all expressed disbelief at the way in which the LEA has handled Marton’s problems. Councillors in Blackpool were discouraged from expressing their views, and so the majority buried their heads in the sand.

Bullying and a serious incident with Internet porn access have been just two of the things that have been covered up. Everyone knows that a school adviser should stand up for what is right for the children and staff in a school he is responsible for.

Early retirement may not be the solution to problems the adviser hopes it will be. It will not prevent anybody appearing at any future tribunals regarding Marton. I should imagine Mrs Lancaster could tell him a bit about how retirement can be marred, after all the negative propaganda about her success as a Head, from the LEA and Head teacher.

Being somebody’s scapegoat will not be the easy way out. The adviser will know what has really gone on, and been covered up to protect people who should never be protected.

Happy Retirement!

lets hope that whoever this person is will have time to reflect on recent events at Marton once they have retired. Lets also hope they will shed light on these events, and ones that we are unaware of, once they are no longer bound to silence by their employer.

Staffing reductions in the LEA

Other advisers and advisory teachers, aswell as other central staff have all been leaving Blackpool's service. This has largely happened because Blackpool needs to lose jobs due to lack of funds.
This makes all the more scandalous the waste of money due to events at Marton. The wastage is well documented on this forum - supply cover, extra LEA support costs, costs incurred in compensation and extra salary costs to suspended teacher, payments to Capita etc etc etc
I wonder how other schools and central staff feel about this when they are losing their school advisers, advisory teachers or in some cases even needing to make members of their own staff redundant.
The council has had its head in the sand - I fail to see how they can politically justify all this.

It is quite correct that Steve Colling, Marton's school advisor, is retiring. He announced this at a course for Deputy Heads the week before last.
Several people were surprised as it did seem very sudden. He is one of the people who have been involved with much of what has gone on at Marton since Mrs Coupe's arrival.

I'm not surprised he wants to get out.
