Alledged incident in year 5

Please, please, please, Crying or Very sad Mad Shocked Confused

Is there anyone out there who can shed some light on the alledged incident that took place last week involving year 5 children at Marton. I have today heard that some children in year 5 had been giving a supply teacher a hard time, the whole year group were given a detention, which on its own is understandable but I was told that Mrs Coupe then spoke to the children, it is now that I find what I heard hard to believe, Mrs Coupe, I was told threatened a group of the children that if they told their parents what had happened to them they would be in very serious trouble. The result of which seems to have been several terrified children who understandably did not want to return to school on Friday. Surely this act can not be true can it ?

I was also told that several parents have been into school to speak to the head and I am unsure of the outcome or success of any confronation.

We have all read on this web site how staff at Marton have been threatened with the loss of their jobs if they speak out against Mrs Coupe but to threaten 9 abnd 10 year old children not to tell on her, if this incident did happen then my god where is it going to stop.

If you can shed light on this alledged incident please do, I truely hope it didnt happen but the way things are going at Marton I am not so sure.

Very worried parent/grandparent.

The whole year group should not have been given a detention for the misbehaviour of some of their number - that is extremely bad teaching practice.

I cannot comment on whether it happened or not, but as a teacher, I had to point that out. No children should be punished for the misdemeanours of other pupils. Ever.

bad practice in teaching

Robsia, you are quite right, keeping the whole year group in for the bad behaviour of a few (from ONE class) is bad practice in teaching.

However, if you read through this whole forum you will see that there is a lot of bad practice going on at Marton School now - and NOT from the loyal and hardworking teachers and support staff.

It seems to me that the LEA are quite aware of this bad practice, but are so anxious to protect a headteacher, regardless of what is going on, that they are ignoring it.

Many many parents are disgusted with what is going on - and the latest incident is just one more thing that is wrong, not only wrong, but could be damaging to the children.

I also heard, from two parents, that their children had been told not to tell them about what Mrs Coupe had said to them when she kept them in. This is very bad practice and something which adults are always told not to say to children. Secrets can be dangerous.

I wonder if these parents who are supposed to be so happy with Mrs Coupe and the school really know the truth of what is going on.

Oh, believe me, I have been keeping track.

I used to teach at Marton and found about this when I put Mrs Alderson down for a reference for a new job I started in September. At my interview, when the headteacher saw who my referee was, she said "Isn't that the lady who's just been suspended?"

I was shocked and said that I thought it could not possibly be. Having worked with Beverly for 18 months I could not think of any circumstances in which she could be suspended - she was an excellent teacher and colleague.

However, I went out and bought a paper and it was true. I have been following the situation ever since.

But, all this notwithstanding, it is still bad teaching practice. I would be interested to know who ordered the class detention - the supply teacher, or someone else?
