A lesson in "Respect"

This message comes from my daughter Mollie, currently in her first term at St George’s High School. Mollie’s brother Matthew is in Year 5 at Marton Primary, and like her father and mother, Mollie shares a keen interest in what is happening at her old school.

“In my new school, I have been told about a group called ‘RESPECT’. They sit down and talk to you and help you get through problems that you don’t know how to solve, or if you’re upset about them.
You ask for an appointment and they send a slip to your form to tell you when you can go and speak to them, and who you can speak to. If they had them at Marton, I think they would go for the same reason…’the head teacher’.”

We all have lessons to learn.

This is a wonderful idea isn't it?

Due to the pressures that the staff are under at Marton a similar thing was offered. They were told they could contact the counselling team at Progress House if they were under undue stress due to the current situation at school. However the staff feel that the person who they have been told to contact is not impartial. They do not trust them to treat their problems confidentially and properly. I have been told this by at least half a dozen current members of staff. Whether this person is impartial or not I do not know, but I do know that these teachers and staff are suffering because they feel they have nowhere to go for help.
