Just in case anyone didn't want to support the petition for Blackpool to be given the supercasino despite losing the bid............................
Please take a minute to visit and sign this petition on the 10 Downing St Website Please pass this on to everyone in your address book. Thanks, Jon Bamborough
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/Casino/
We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to encourage
Blackpool Council to forget the casino.
Blackpool lost the Casino bid fair and square, Blackpool
Council should now forget about the supercasino and concentrate
on developing the town into the family orientated resort it was
famous for. We need to urgently look for a Plan B. This may be
legoland, Storm City, Rainforest Ventures or one of dozens of
other ideas that have been shelved by Blackpool Council over
the last 7-8 years.

| Although I didn't support the original bid for a supercasino, and might well sign this petition, I really don't see what it has to do with Marton School. Does anyone else think this may not be the most appropriate forum for such a post? |

| I FOR ONE WAS GUTTED AT THE CASINO GOING TO MANCHESTER, BEARING IN MIND JUST HOW MUCH INVESTMENT THEY HAVE ALREADY HAD,ANYTHING THAT CAN IMPROVE OUR TOWN SHOULD BE WELCOMED. THAT SAID, THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT BOARD TO BE PLAYING PARTY POLITICS AND DISCUSSING THE CASINO, THIS IS/WAS A MESSAGE BOARD TO DISCUSS ISSUES WITH MARTON PRIMARY SCHOOL, I FOR ONE, AM VERY SURPRISED THAT THE CASINO HAS RAISED ITS HEAD ON HERE, WHAT NEXT, ? |

There have been many occasions when members of the MSAG and posters on this forum have been accused of having nothing to do with Marton School. I have always maintained that people living in a community have an obligation to take an interest in issues affecting that community. I think this forum has been an excellent opportunity for people to do that.
I therefore think this is a perfect place to advertise the petition for people in the wider Blackpool community to take an interest in the future of Blackpool. The more places this petition is advertised the better. We have learned through this forum that apathy has often been an enemy - don't let it happen with Blackpool's future.
The future of Marton is inevitably linked with Blackpool's future and the decisions made by councillors and officials. |

I think it's a good idea to advertise the petition on here too. The council needs to concentrate on sorting out the deprivation in Blackpool. One of the main ways to do this is through education. So they should make sure new plans are made for a prosperous Blackpool and the terrible waste of money we have seen in the case of Marton School is not repeated.
People should know that this petition advertised by Cllr Bamborough gives people a choice. |

| Now that does sound like a good idea, admin. There would certainly be plenty to discuss. |

What a good idea! I can think of the ideal moderator (not mentioning any names Admin!!!!)
Blackpool Council used to have a kind of discussion board on their website but took it down when people started disagreeing with them.
BTW wayne, there is no "party politics" in either of the petitions. This is an ideal place to discuss it because I strongly believe that without the casino distraction, the "marton issue" would have been addressed a long time ago. My position is simple, I have never been against the casino, I just didn't think we would get it. Now that I have been proved right I think we should just move on.
look forward to the new site admin!! |

It would be a good idea. For quite a while it has been clear that a lot of problems raised on this forum have been about the council - not just Marton school.
To save work for admin could there be one site with a section in it to keep the Marton posts going. That would mean that MSAG can keep posting. The current forum could always be locked with a link to it so that anyone can read old posts.
It might also bring the Marton problems to a wider audience if the new forum is advertised well. |

A website for employees of Blackpool Council and residents of Blackpool sounds fantastic. Somebody has to do this pleeeeeease!!!
Can you believe what Jon said - that there used to be one, but it was taken down when users started disagreeing? _________________ Unthinking respect for authority is the greatest enemy of truth.

I have to say I was quite interested in Jon's post. I think that there is some merit in having this discussion about the Casino failure in Blackpool. Whilst I do not always agree with what he says and does, I do feel that the Casino subject was raised on this site before the vote was in. I only hope that admin feels it is acceptable to discuss these other issues. I think that this site has achieved a great deal. It has provided an opportunity for people to ask questions, share information and force the CSA to act on matters they would rather have kept hidden.
Undoubtedly Marton is a safer place for children because of this website. I think the Councillors now need to focus on what they have been ignoring for so long, the people of Blackpool.
I wholeheartedly support the opportunity for people to discuss issues that affect them and not just Marton School.
BUT, don't forget why this site was set up. It was to raise questions that the Council did not want to answer about Marton. May it continue until Marton is back to the school it once was. |
